Home > Our Background

Toys for Africa started as a passionate dream to make a difference in the lives of children in
South Africa.

Toys for Africa has the mission to hand a new toy or stationery to every underprivileged child in
South Africa and later Africa. We decided on toys as our “weapon” against poverty because of
the significant value toys hold to the development of a child on emotional, physical, mental and
educational levels. Thus toys to us also include counting frames, pencils, pens and toothbrushes
with cars, dolls, puzzles and clay.

By the middle of February 2016 we have handed out just over 205 000 new toys and stationery
to underprivileged children all across South Africa.

Our process is simple. We search for institutions where underprivileged children are being cared
for or educated. We send the institution a catalogue with 31 toy options. 1 toy may be chosen for
each child at the institution from this catalogue. A completed catalogue is returned to Toys for
Africa and a budget is drawn up. From here we search for sponsors for the toys. As soon as a
sponsor comes forward a date is set up with the beneficiaries and toys are delivered. When we
deliver the toys, we are accompanied by artists that perform for the children and each delivery
takes between 35 and 60 minutes.

Our core values include the following: Equality, Nation Building, Diversity, Human Dignity,
Accountability and Transparency.

At Toys for Africa we are colour blind in approach and we will do everything we can to deliver
more toys to more children. We are proud to be associated with our Ambassadors Matthew
Booth, Heinz and Alette Winckler, L’loyd Cele, Donnalee Roberts, Xola Ntshinga, Candice

To us it is about more than just handing out toys. It is about personally meeting children and
showing them that we care. It is about creating memories they will never forget and that will last
them a lifetime. We want to make dreams come true.
